Basic Career Change Advice

Filed under Jobs

The best career change advice is this — have a laser like focus in your approach to job search. Without this, you’re setting yourself up for frustration, disappointment and rejection, and possibly a very long wait before career change becomes a reality for you. The current jobs market is tough with a recent article in USA Today describing the 2011 jobs market as being a buyers market. Therefore, to be successful in your job search, you will need to be selective about which employers you approach. You’ll also need to communicate with them in a way which clearly sets you apart from other job candidates. Developing a targeted job search strategy involves three basic steps:

1. Complete a detailed self/career review
2. Fully research your options
3. Develop and implement your targeted job search strategy

Step 1 – Complete a detailed self/career review Can you answer these questions about yourself?

* What are your five strongest employment related skills?
* How would you describe the key characteristics of your personality? What is it about these personality traits that makes you suited to the type of work that you want to do?
* What are your five most important career/life values?
* What have been your most significant career achievements or contributions so far?
* Can you describe to a prospective employer concisely and compellingly what it is you have to offer them as a future employee? That is…..can you explain why they should hire you?
* What are your preferences or needs in relation to level of income, location of employment, work/life balance, level or scope of responsibility in relation to future employment?

If you are having difficulty in answering any of these questions you will certainly find it difficult to implement a targeted job search strategy. The answers to these questions are also necessary before you seriously get involved in step 2.

Step 2 - Fully research your options The outcomes from your self/career review means that you can then begin to research future employment opportunities. Options research means finding answers to some of the following questions:

* What skills would you prefer to be using in your next job?
* What job roles have you identified which will utilise your preferred skills, and which are also a good fit with your key personality characteristics and strengths?
* What are your preferences for industry sector in your future employment?
* What preferences do you have regarding being employed in the private or public sector?
* What preferences do you have in relation to the size of your employer – large, or small to medium sector?

These questions provide a filter for seeking out potential employer organisations. The best advice is to actually have a written list of employers you’d like to work for. These organisations would meet your needs in terms of:

* Employment location
* Industry and/or job type
* Size/scope of the organisation
* Security of employment
* Future career progression opportunities
* Remuneration and benefits

The importance of having a written list is a key requirement for having a targeted job search strategy. Using this list you can begin to research each organisation so that you know what their needs are, and how and when they are most likely to recruit. Armed with this information you can then get stuck into step 3.

3. Develop and implement your targeted job search strategy

Having done your homework on the type of job you want, and the type of organisations you want to work for you should now be in a position to develop and implement your job search. You should be in a position to:

* Plan your job search time so that you have the right balance between searching for advertised employment and being more proactive by networking
* Know where/when/how employers on your list advertise job vacancies, if, in fact, this is how they typically recruit staff.
* Know to what extent you will need to implement a networking strategy. Read up on networking tips if you’re not sure how to network effectively
* Conduct information interviews if you are doing networking
* Choose a resume style that is appropriate to your job search target
* Write a targeted cover letter or email – whether this be in response to a job ad, or cold call.

Summary The best, most effective career change advice from any job search coach is likely to be – have a targeted job search strategy. This means being very clear about what you have to offer an employer, who your employers of choice are, and being able to communicate information that is appropriate to their needs in a way that sets you apart from other job seekers.

Getting Reviews for Your Restaurant Online

Filed under Misc.

By Jenn Gregory

Everyone’s heard that the best form of advertising is word of mouth… and right now the biggest mouth around is the internet. As the owner of a restaurant, you can put the power of the internet to work for you. You can hire a great restaurant web designer and create a website that is a commanding marketing tool. Your restaurant web design can help customers locate your business, show off your menu, and make it possible for them to place online orders and reservations. You can even take credit card payments through your site.

One other smart way to use the web to market your restaurant is to get online reviews. People tend to trust the opinion of their peers more than they do any advertising. Take advantage of that fact and let your customers promote your restaurant for you with their reviews. There are several ways you can go about doing this.

Use Social Media to Your Advantage Establish a Facebook page and use other social media to spread your name. Encourage customers to visit your page and leave comments there. You might even put an invitation to visit your page on the bottom of each check, on your menus, or at the tables.

This is also a great way to get feedback from your customers. If you do get the occasional negative comment, it may help you develop your business. Be sure to closely monitor your pages so you can stay on top of your customers’ opinions and keep your restaurant continuously improving.

Let Customers Leave Comments on your Website Talk to your restaurant web designer about creating a place for your customers to leave their comments. When prospective customers are researching potential restaurants to visit, they’ll see how satisfied your current clientele is. The designer can also recommend review sites that you may want to provide links to where your customers can express their opinions of your restaurant.

Don’t worry about the occasional negative comment that may arise. Most people will be skeptical if you only get Honest Reviews because it doesn’t seem realistic that you could please 100% of your customers all of the time. A negative review here and there will make the comments seem more authentic.

A Sudoku A Day Exercises The Brain

Filed under Misc.

By Earl Talbot

Negative issues are usually associated with addiction. Drug abuse, excessive drinking, and even too much gambling are all negative activities that are highly addictive. But if there is one kind of addiction that is actually beneficial for adults and kids alike, it would be an addiction to sudoku puzzles. Ilchi Lee said, Researchers rank solving sudoku puzzles daily among the top ten non-traditional and alternative ways to boosts brain power. Other brain boosting moves include high-protein diets, listening to classical music, and lots of rest. These are simple but are rather difficult to follow because of budget limitations, personal preferences, and lifestyle. This is the advantage sudoku games holds over other brain boosters. They are accessible from newspapers, books, and even the Internet. They are also workable between breaks or at any spare time. So every time someone chastises you for doing sudoku again, kindly explain and hope that they pick up the habit too.

Though sudoku puzzles are not mathematical problems, solving the puzzles requires the most basic tool of mathematics and science: logic. Since the puzzles entail the use of logic, common sense, and concentration, the brain is put out of the stupor of doing routine, mundane tasks. In other words, your brain actually gets a break and a good work-out. Studies reveal that the more the brain uses its skills, the better it works. Brains that get more exercise are determined to be more active, and its cells are healthier. Researchers even associate sudoku brain exercises to physical exercise. They stress that just as physical exercise keeps muscle loss at bay, sudoku exercise keeps brain cells from dying and also encourages better brain function. Education is important, but studies actually show that students who do mental workouts like sudoku have higher IQs than students who do not. This only shows that doses of sudoku are more than just ways to pass time. They actually help in improving your ability to comprehend more complex ideas.

Ian Robertson, a neuroscientist, facilitated a research among the elderly with the premise that decreased mental ability is not inevitable with the right stimulation. Mr. Ilchi writes, the research included two groups of elderly people: the first group solved sudoku puzzles as part of their routine, while the second did not. After some time, their IQ levels were tested and compared to their test results before the experiment. The sudoku-solving group was found to have increased their mental abilities by a significant percentage while the other group showed no change. Dr. Robertson cited a similar research wherein 3,000 people, aged 65-94, were found to have increased their mental capabilities and age by as much as 14 years, just by ten sessions of brain boosting exercise like sudoku.

Other experts agree with these findings, saying that solving challenging mind games like sudoku puzzles inhibit or prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss. Health trends also show that adults with demanding, and intellectually challenging jobs benefit from better mental function when they age. Sudoku functions just like these jobs because it requires brain exertions. If you want to read more information about ilchilee.us click here.

How to Create a Poetry Anthology

Filed under Poems

Creating a Poetry Anthology

By Jeff McRitchie

Putting together a poetry anthology can be a rewarding experience. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you get started.

Pick a Theme:

If you make a trip to your bookstore, library or perhaps your own bookshelf, you will notice that for the most part, poetry anthologies are based around one theme or another. The theme can be anything really, including “best local poets under the age of 30,” or “best cowboy poetry of the latter half of the 20th Century” or something of the sort. If you are going feature your own work, then of course, you yourself are the de facto theme. Go ahead and revel in that fact for while if you like. Yourself as theme. Think of all of the people who mocked you and your poetic endeavors in the past and smile the smile of the vindicated.

Collecting Material:

Let’s assume for the purposes of this article, however, that your goal is to collect the work of other poets while you await your time and place in the sun. How best to get quality material?

There are a few different ways to do so, but in this article, we are going to make the unsafe assumption that most poets these days have computers and are hooked up to the internet. What you need to do then, is to find the places that they congregate. One great place to find potential submissions is to find and join online writers and poets forums. Here, you can introduce yourself and your project and guide potential contributors to a website that you have set up describing your proposed anthology in detail along with the theme, deadline, length of the work they should send, how you prefer to receive submissions, and how and if your contributors will be compensated. For the sake of your first anthology, you should probably request material that hasn’t yet been published in order to prevent copyright hassles.

Another way to gain submissions might be to place some ads in poetry or writing publications, to place fliers up at local colleges, or to ask to speak to writing groups.

Reviewing Submissions:

For the most part, your poets will probably cooperate with your request that their work exist within the theme that you have proposed, as well as work that is just not up to snuff. Make sure that you compose and send gentle rejection slips to these poets, and thank them for their work.

Occasionally, you will also come up against work that is excellent but does not fir your theme. If that happens, contact the author and request some of his or her work that does perhaps better fit the theme, and perhaps even ask to keep the first right to publish the work in your next anthology.

Printing and Binding:

Printing should be black and white, high quality laser. As far as binding goes, there are numerous options depending on the scope of your project. Some of the best poetry anthologies out there are simply saddle stitched with a couple of staples in the middle, but if you are looking to add a little class to your book, there are some better options. One style that you might want to consider is double-o or twin loop wire binding. These can use quality hard covers, and add an element of elegance. Then there is also thermal binding which is what you would find in hardcover and softcover books. The machines that do these types of binding are inexpensive and easy to use, so if you are going to be doing a lot of publishing in the future, it would make a great deal of sense to have them on hand for savings and flexibility.If you want to see more information about Love Poems click here.

How To Search A Dream Job

Job Search – What Type is Yours?

By Ian R McAllister

There are probably as many types of Job Search as there are Job Seekers.

But the global increase in unemployment has brought about a new surge in job applicants, many of whom have not have experienced the task of the Job Search in many years. The result is many dissatisfied job seekers, who feel that their Job Search efforts are not being appreciated by the employment profession, with a resultant increase in long term job seekers.

However, if they knew which type of job search they were undertaking, they would know what type of result they should expect.

Direct Offer: The Insider
The direct approach and offer from a company, is often a surprise to the person, who probably as not an active job seeker. This type of job seeker is already directly known by the organisation, normally through being an existing employee. You could also be presently working for a competitor, supplier or an existing customer of the organisation. If you are approached, you have a 90% chance of being employed using this method.

Networking from: The Virtual Insider
This type of direct approach offer again is a delight to a person who is probably not an active job seeker, but is presently not known to the employing organisation. The result of this approach is a testament to their clear personal elevator pitch and track record of delivery, and the advocation by others often within the employing organisation, or by people within a common mutual network. This is a fast expanding area of recruitment, with companies now paying existing employees for successful introductions of new hires. If approached, you have a 50% chance of being employed using this method

Headhunted: The Star!
Modern headhunting is about direct from client business orientated briefs, which are fulfilled quickly. While the client side of the business has changed little but niched more, the search and find side of the business has been transformed by the boom in social networking. Now, techniques like Boolean search allow headhunters to create larger lists of suitably qualified applicants, and hence offer better candidates who are more researched in a quicker timescale. The result is that these types of job seekers are again often not active job seekers, but can be concluded as stars within their chosen profession or market. You have a greater than 35% chance of being employed if approached using this method

Networking to: the Inside track
We now move from mainly passive job seekers to active job seekers, those who are either employed or presently between positions. This next two types of job search require the job seeker to:

  • Know themselves, and what they offer
  • Know what they want to do
  • Be able to communicate the combination in a personal elevator pitch
  • Be willing to research the desired/targeted organisations

This type of job search requires effort, and hence most job seekers avoid it not because they are more successful – often ten times as successful as other active types of job search; but because other options require less thought and effort.The inside track approach requires that having decided to job search, that inside your target organisation/s you already have a previously developed contact/s. This inside contact may be as a result of you being a customer, supplier, competitor or business network contacts. Your initial approach is based on person to person conversations often over cups of coffee, making a subtle research based informational interview approach to asses who you should be talking to, and what they are seeking to achieve for the business. If you use this method, then you have a 20% chance of being employed from companies you target

Direct approach: The Navigator
The navigator approach is similar and statistically as successful to the inside track, but as you have no developed contacts inside the target organisations (start with a list of 50, whittle them down to 20 through simple research), you need to develop a contact base. With the development of business orientated social networking, and the increase in the number of companies offering existing employees bonuses for the successful introduction of new hires, this method is a lot easier than it ever was. It requires the same clarity of though on who you are/what you want out of your career as the inside tack, with similar levels of research effort on the target organisations, but development of suitable insider contacts. On average five times more successful than applying via job adverts in newspapers or job boards, with a 15% chance of being employed from companies you target on your researched list. This can easily be improved to virtual insider levels of success of 50% or greater with some more simple research and networking techniques, it just depends on how much you want a job with that company?

Recruiter: The Mountie
The next set of three job search options have differing rates of success, but have two things in common:

  • You will follow a defined HR process to be hired
  • As the positions are openly advertised for, you will have high levels of competition. Expect 5 people to make it to the interview stage for each single position being recruited for, multiplied by three fold back down each stage of the recruitment process (ie: application, CV sift, online testing, telephone interview, etc). This could presently result in 100 original job applications
  • If you undertake your job search via a recruiter advert, and having checked out the strength of the recruiters relationship and brief to make sure you are not being CV fished, and further have not broken the “three recruiters and out” rule; then your chances of employment via this route are 15% or greater. You can easily improve this to 35% or more if you know the right tactics and questions to ask. The recruiter often works in a competitive environment, against other recruiters and the organisations own HR people, to fulfil a position. If the recruiter successfully fulfils the position and gets their man, then they get paid; if not, then its on to the next opportunity. Good recruiters always get their man, and after introduction to the employer you follow the organisations defined recruitment process. Now it become very easy to find a job in Pakistan through Newspaper Job Ads Pakistan for Pakistan people.

    Newspaper or company website job advert: The Jockey
    Newspaper adverts and company websites are a good source of real job opportunity. Firstly, they require effort and or cost on behalf of the hiring organisation, which means that the jobs are real and not CV fishing exercises. Secondly, you are direct on to the organisation, although you have to accept that you probably won’t be talking to the hiring manager, but about to ride through a sanitised, wholly locally legal/ethical and HR managed/monitored recruitment process. Don’t expect to be treated like you or a human being, the process is designed to be selective in a non-judgemental way. You hence have little choice in the race you are about to take part in, expect that you chose to enter it, and hence have little ability to affect its outcome. Your chances of being recruited via this method once you hit the apply button or send your application through the post are between 3% and 5%, although this can easily be doubled with some simple effort

    Job board: The Donkey
    Of all the methods of job search, the job board is the most common and actively used by many present day job seekers. Yet, the statistics show that only 12% of all positions are fulfilled by job boards in any market. If so few jobs are fulfilled by job boards, why do most unsuccessful long term job seekers spend most of their days trawling job boards? Simply, it doesn’t require much effort to find or apply for jobs on a job board, but gives the job seeker the regular internal satisfaction of being able to say at the end of each day “yes honey, I spent the day job seeking!” As a recruiter, I know that some of those jobs “advertised” on job boards do not exist. The job board market is so competitive – with around 50,000 job boards in North America, and 50,000 around the rest of the world – that the cost of advertising a job on a job board can be as little as free. If the cost of doing something was free, and add in that you can repeat the same job advert for ever simply by ticking a repeat button, how often would you do that task? In a recent test, of 126 jobs advertised as available in a large city, an employment organisation found that the actual number of jobs fulfilling the search criteria was 10! When there are so many “false” or repeat job adverts, and when it is so easy to CV fish, is it any wonder that you chances of success via a job board can drop as low as 2%?

    Job Search Conclusion
    So, what type of job search are you undertaking? Statistics from various parts of the world show that a majority of job seekers focus most of their efforts in responding to job adverts from recruiters, newspapers or spending their time on job boards, where at best their average chance of success if 15% or less. Yet, over three quarter of jobs fulfilled in the past year have never been advertised, of which at least half of them are open for application from job seekers who just have to put in a little effort and know a few simply learnt tactics.

    For instance, one job search tactic takes: 1second to understand; 1minute to learn; and within 5minutes applied to take your job search success in responding to job adverts from 15% or less to 35% or greater. Yet most would just prefer to go on proving the well known and proven job search results that they and others have always achieved.

    The job search: what type is yours? Good Luck!

    Introduction Of Arab Fashion

    Filed under Fashion

    I read article in which written “Couture” is quite a different category than just clothing or fashion clothing. In the world of style and high fashion, the top of the line, utmost fashion designs are most often referred to as couture. Being at the height of what is new, fashionably current and at the highest end of style to the point where you are even longed for by your fashion peers is to be “couture.”

    Their lives pass in barren, difficult means; it takes them to move of the oases in summer, towards the zones of green grass in the winter. Their savings are reversed mainly in livestock and silver jewellry. The jewels usually are used in commercial interchanges, but the most important use is as dowry (Al Mahr) in Arab language. The woman obtains the greater amount of jewelry in the occasion of her marriage, from the family of the fiance.That leaves her with silver of her own, that can use at any time if she needs money or wants to contribute with something for her house.

    If you prefer to wear traditional Muslim clothing then you can chose to wear long Abayas (long Kaftan like dresses), which originate from the Arab countries. There are so many designs to choose from. From the classic black and trendy urban styles to more western styles. You can even get designer ones; or you might like to wear the traditional Shalwar Kameez (loose tunic and trouser), which originates from India/Pakistan. You are spoilt for choice. So much to choose from! One thing to remember is to keep the glitter and glitz to a minimum for everyday wear. Go for a casual and simple look for everyday wear, and leave the glitter and glitz for special occasions or evening wear.

    Traditional and western designs can be brought from many shops; or nowadays there is so much available online. Just spend some time planning your outfits and soon you will be making your own trends in Muslim Fashion. If you know more about Arab Fashion and Arab Girls click here
